The 19th annual Women in Science Conference will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at the Mabee Center in Tulsa. Registration for students and teachers has closed, as maximum occupancy has been reached. Over 1,000 students from 80+ schools across the state are registered to attend, along with their teachers.

There is still vendor booth space available, but it's going fast!  See below for details.

About the Conference

The goal of the Women in Science Conference is to show students in grades 6-12 that careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are exciting, attainable and rewarding. More than 1,000 teachers and students from 80 schools across Oklahoma attended the event last year.

The free, one-day event immerses students in numerous hands-on science activities, helps them discover pathways to STEM careers, and gives them opportunities to interact with college and university representatives from dozens of Oklahoma institutions.

During an interactive panel session, students will learn firsthand about the many science-related professions available to them. Women in fields such as climatology, engineering, chemistry, zoology and medicine will talk to students about their respective careers. They’ll answer questions like:

  • What do you really do every day, and what is the best part of your job?
  • Can an average math student be successful in your field?
  • What do you know now that you wish you had known when you were 13?
  • Does it really matter if I take that science class?

Breakout sessions will engage students in fun, interactive science and engineering challenges designed to promote teamwork, critical thinking skills, and self-confidence.

Organizations that want to take advantage of this terrific outreach opportunity by hosting a hands-on science or outreach/recruitment booth at the conference may register to host a booth at this time via the link in the bottom section of this page; separate, individual registration of booth hosts is also required. More than 90 booths participated in the event last year!  There is no cost to participate.

The 2016 Women in Science Conference is hosted and presented by the National Science Foundation's Oklahoma Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (NSF OK EPSCoR). Other funding sponsors include Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Oklahoma INBRE, and NASA Oklahoma Space Grant Consortium/ NASA EPSCoR.

Follow these steps to secure your booth space and register your attendants:

  1. One person from your group should submit the Booth Registration Form (via the Booth Registration link below) on your organization's behalf by Wednesday, Aug. 31.
  2. If your organization will be sponsoring two separate booths (i.e. two hands-on science booths or hands-on science plus a recruitment booth), you only need to complete one online form to register both booths.
  3. Everyone who will be attending the conference in support of your booth must individually register via the Vendors/Volunteers link at the very bottom of this page by Wednesday, Sept. 7.  (You should plan to send at least two people to the conference to host your booth and interact with students.)
  4. There is no registration fee or booth charge--the event is free, but registration is required.  A light breakfast and box lunch will be provided to all registered vendors/volunteers.

We encourage organizations that plan to host traditional recruitment booths to consider including some sort of interactive, hands-on experience at their table to more fully engage students.  A brief 1-2 minute activity can be a terrific conversation starter!  You will be reaching students and teachers from all across Oklahoma; approximately 800 students and 200 teachers from 70+ schools are anticipated.

The Vendor/Volunteer registration link (below) is to be used by all booth hosts and volunteers who will be attending the conference. Vendor/Volunteer registration is for individuals.  The Booth Registration Form above must be used to register your organization.

All staff who will be working in booths must individually register via this link, even the person who registered the booth. Vendor/volunteer registration closes Sept. 7.
