College of the Muscogee Nation Hiring Science & Math Instructors

The College of the Muscogee Nation (CMN) is currently soliciting applications for two new faculty positions. Through a partnership with OK NSF EPSCoR, instructors in the fields of mathematics and science are being hired to benefit the college's student body. MATHEMATICS INSTRUCTOR 
Job Description 
Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Instructor in Mathematics is responsible for teaching college level courses, contributing to the development of curriculum in their field of expertise, helping with course design, syllabi and lesson plan development.  Instructors are expected to follow College of the Muscogee Nation and Board of Regent’s policy. A full time instructor is expected to teach a minimum of 15 credit hours or 5 courses each semester, with teaching loads adjusted for service responsibilities.  The instructor must have knowledge of multicultural and Native American classroom settings.
 
Principal Duties and Responsibilities  
The provisions of the following Instructor duties include, but are not limited to: 
  1. Teach a minimum of 5 courses a semester in their field or discipline.
  2. Remain current in subject matter, computer, and multimedia technology.
  3. Must be available for student advisement; office hours must be posted.
  4. Must participate in the accreditation process.
  5. Assessment of student learning required.
Functions 
  1. Follow the policies and procedures of the College of the Muscogee Nation and its Board of Regents.
  2. Design courses, syllabi, and lesson plans for each course being taught.
  3. Must be diligent with all academic deadlines, such as new-course submission deadlines and grade submission.
  4. Instructors must participate in periodic evaluations including classroom observations by the Dean of Academic Affairs.
  5. Must collaborate with other instructors/adjunct instructors.
  6. Work with Student Success Center to promote student retention.
  7. Teaching through distance education may be required.
  8. Serve on College committees.
  9. Participate in professional development.
  10. Annual leave must be taken during breaks between trimesters and should not be taken during trimesters when classes are being held.  Also, prior to and after the trimester, faculty must be available to start or complete their instructional responsibilities.
  11. Shall perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications 
  1. Minimum Requirements – An earned master’s degree from an accredited institution in Mathematics. Or an earned master’s degree (any subject area) and 18 additional graduate hours in Mathematics.
  2. Preferred Requirements –  Master’s degree in Mathematics and experience in college teaching and advising.  Exemplary oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  3. Special Considerations – Ability to speak the Muscogee (Creek) language is preferable but not a requirement. Native American preference.
Licensure (if appropriate): Valid Driver’s License.

SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR 
Job Description
Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Instructor in Science is responsible for teaching college level classes, contributing to the development of curriculum in their field of expertise, working with the Academic Dean for course design, syllabi, lesson plan development, and assessment.  Instructors are expected to follow College of the Muscogee Nation and Regent’s Board-level policy.  A full time instructor is expected to teach 12 to 15 hours, or 4 to 5 courses each trimester, with teaching loads adjusted for service responsibilities and class size.  Instructor must be able to teach on the College of the Muscogee Nation sites in Okmulgee, and other locations, as necessary.  The instructor will be the academic adviser for their degree field, and will be expected to meet with advisees periodically throughout each trimester and maintain appropriate records pertaining to their advisees.  The instructor must be comfortable in multicultural and Native American classroom settings.

  1. Teach a minimum of 4 courses a trimester.
  2. Develop new courses for existing degree programs of the College of the Muscogee Nation.
  3. Meet with advisees to develop degree plans and monitor their academic progress each trimester.
  4. Post office hours for students and public.
  5. Provide services as requested by the department and College.
  6. Assist with the accreditation processes.
  7. Be actively engaged in the assessment of student learning.
Functions 
  1. Follow the policies and procedures of the College of the Muscogee Nation and its Board of Regents.
  2. Contribute to the development of courses and curriculum in their field.
  3. Teach 12 to 15 hours, or 4 to 5 courses each trimester, with teaching loads adjusted for service responsibilities and class size.
  4. Design courses, syllabi, and lesson plans for each course being taught.
  5. On unusual matters concerning program objectives and policy, must obtain guidance before taking action.
  6. Must observe diligence with all academic deadlines such as (but not limited to) new-course submission deadlines, textbook orders, and grade submission.
  7. Instructors must be open to periodic evaluations including classroom observations by senior academic affairs officers.
  8. Must be a willing collaborator with instructors in other fields.
  9. Able to work with Student Success Center as part of a team to protect the retention of the student.
  10. Willing to teach, or learn to teach, through distance education.
  11. Serve on College committees.
  12. Remain current in your field through professional development and periodical subscriptions.
  13. Annual leave must be taken during breaks between trimesters and should not be taken during trimesters when classes are being held.  Also, prior to and after the trimester, faculty must be available to start or complete their instructional responsibilities.
  14. Any and all other duties assigned.
Standard for Merit Performance 
Performs duties in an effective and efficient manner, is a motivated and scholarly academic leader.
 
Job Specifications
  1. Minimum Requirements – An earned master’s degree from an accredited institution in Science with teaching experience and substantial course work at the graduate level (18) graduate credits) in discipline.  Demonstrated knowledge of the science field.  Minimum of 18 graduate level course work in the discipline they teach in general education.
  2. Preferred Requirements –Master’s degree in Science and experience in college teaching and advising.  Exemplary oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  3. Special Considerations – Ability to speak the Muscogee Creek language is preferable but not a requirement. Native American preference.                        
Licensure (If appropriate) 
Valid driver’s license. Teaching certificate helpful, but not mandatory.
