Oklahoma EPSCoR State Director Jerry Malayer, Ph.D., has been elected a member of the EPSCoR/IDeA Foundation Board of Directors, where he will serve concurrently as secretary and treasurer for the organization. Officers generally serve a one-year term, according to the Foundation’s website.
Dr. Malayer is the Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Education in the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences at Oklahoma State University, where he has been on the faculty since 1994. He is a Professor in the Department of Physiological Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine, and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Division of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources at OSU.
The EPSCoR/IDeA Foundation is a national, non–profit organization aimed at promoting the importance of a vibrant science and technology enterprise, primarily though improving the university research infrastructure and competitiveness of states that historically have received smaller amounts of federal research funding.
Created in 1995, the Foundation works with states and agencies that participate in the federally–sponsored Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) and the Institutional Development Award (IDeA) program. EPSCoR/IDeA are merit–based programs aimed at enhancing the science and engineering research and technology capabilities of states that have not been as competitive in obtaining research and development funding.
The EPSCoR/IDeA Foundation is governed by a 15–member Board of Directors, with day-to-day operation carried out by an Executive Director.
