OKLAHOMA NSF EPSCoR SUMMER 2021
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

The information below is based on cooperative agreement no. OIA-1946093, which was approved and awarded by the NSF on July 1, 2020.

Q.
Are students allowed to conduct their research at an institution other than a comprehensive research institution (i.e. OU, OSU, TU, NRI)?

A.
Students must perform research at one of the state’s research-intensive campuses (OU, OSU, TU, NRI). HOWEVER, proposals may address a hybrid experience as follows: The student’s primary research must take place at a research-intensive institution under the mentorship of faculty from that university or institute; supplementary research may occur at a regional university, community college, or tribal college and must be under the supervision of a faculty member from that institution. In instances where supplementary research occurs, only one institution will act as the fiscal agent for those funds.

Can the budget be used for principle investigator salaries or stipends?

A.
No. Per the solicitation, the “budget must be used for the benefit of the student’s research.” This includes the student’s stipend, limited lab supplies to benefit the student, student travel, etc.

Is there a GPA requirement?

A.
No.

Q.
Does the student have to be a U.S. resident?

A.
Students must be residents of Oklahoma.

Can an undergraduate student who graduates in spring 2021 still participate in the program during summer 2021?

A.
No. Since the student would no longer be classified as an undergraduate after graduation, they would not qualify for the program.

Is IDC allowed?

A.
No.

Q.
What if my proposal doesn’t address weather, water, carbon, infrastructure or energy?

A.
Proposals in all areas of STEM research will be considered, but award preference will be given to those that address weather, water, carbon, infrastructure, or energy, including social dynamics elements of these topics.
