The 20th annual Women in Science Conference will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at the Mabee Center in Tulsa. More than 1,200 students and teachers have registered to attend; maximum capacity for schools was reached within a record three hours this year!

About the Conference

The goal of the Women in Science Conference is to show students in grades 6-12 that careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are exciting, attainable and rewarding. More than 1,000 teachers and students from 80 schools across Oklahoma attended the event last year.

The free, one-day conference immerses students in numerous hands-on science activities, helps them discover pathways to STEM careers, and gives them opportunities to interact with college and university representatives from dozens of Oklahoma institutions. More than 75 different entities are hosting over 90 interactive hands-on science and recruitment booths at this year's event!

During an interactive panel session, students will learn firsthand about the many science-related professions available. Women in STEM-related fields such as climatology, engineering, chemistry, zoology, and medicine will talk to students about their respective careers. These role models will answer questions like:

  • What do you really do every day, and what is the best part of your job?
  • Can an average math student be successful in your field?
  • What do you know now that you wish you had known when you were 13?
  • Does it really matter if I take that science class?

Brand new breakout sessions will engage students in fun, interactive, science and engineering challenges designed to promote teamwork, critical thinking skills, and self-confidence.

A special session just for teachers engages teachers in five different hands-on science activities, which they will learn how to apply in the classroom. (Curriculum and materials will be provided to attendees.)

The 2017 Women in Science Conference is hosted and presented by the National Science Foundation's Oklahoma Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (NSF OK EPSCoR). Other funding sponsors include Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Oklahoma INBRE, and NASA Oklahoma Space Grant Consortium/ NASA EPSCoR.

Booth registration has reached maximum capacity and the registration deadline has passed for individual participants.

If you have a staff member who will be assisting with your registered booth, but they did not register before the deadline:
Onsite registration for individuals who will be assisting with a registered booth will be available the morning of the event. However, there will be a limited number of lunch tickets available for walk-in registrants.
